Many words can be used to describe Donald Trump. Words like arrogant, misinformed, impulsive, and egotistical are only a few of many that come to mind. Another word that can be used is wealthy. Though some may disagree on his exact net worth, it is very clear that the President and his family have more than enough generational wealth. The fact that he has such an abundance of wealth makes what journalist Tony Schwartz said about Trump extremely depressing.

Tony Schwartz is the co-author of Donald Trump’s 1987 best seller, “Art of the Deal.” On Friday, Schwartz took the time to criticize the commander in chief.  “No way Trump donates $1m of own money to Harvey victims. He only promises to give. Never actually does,” said Schwartz on Twitter. If this is true, it is extremely disheartening that someone so rich could be so selfish.

A leader is someone willing to make sacrifices and care about others, this kind of behavior is simply inexcusable. Not only is Trump not a leader, he is a heartless human being. Whether or not if you are President, how could a multi-billionaire not be generous to not give what would be a small drop in the bucket to help those who have lost everything?

Generosity and sympathy for others are basic yet very important human qualities that Trump lacks. Fortunately, Americans rich or poor have banned together to help those who need it the most. Billionaire Michael Dell, the chairman and CEO of Dell Technologies has pledged to donate $36 million dollars to hurricane relief efforts. Dell and his wife have also launched the Rebuild Texas Fund, a project designed to raise $100 million by the end of Labor Day.

Star NFL player J.J. Watt who plays for the Houston Texans has continued to raise money for relief as well. In 5 days more than $13 million has already been collected. Other celebrities from  Leonardo DiCaprio, Sandra Bullock, Kevin Hart, Oprah and many more are stepping up and donating to help others. While on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show”, Miley Cyrus even got emotional while announcing her donation to Harvey victims.

ABC’s “Good Morning America” held a telethon Thursday morning that resulted in more than $14 million in donations. Many celebrities from Alex Rodriguez and Tony Danza appeared on the program to encourage viewers to donate.

The list goes on and on with how people have found the compassion in their hearts to help these victims. Thousands have been left homeless, without an inefficient supply of food, water and medical supplies. To make matters worse Harvey is the most expensive natural disaster in American history. USA Today has reported that the estimated repair cost is $190 billion. With all of this devastation and uncertainty, how the President can feel such little empathy is remarkable. This is proof once again that he is selfishness has corrupted him. It is despicable for Trump to claim he will “make America great again” when it is clear he does not care about Americans who are suffering. Yet another reason why Trump and his whole cabinet is not right for this country.
