Making Headlines: What Everyone is Talking About
During the Jason Aldean concert last night, Stephen Paddock opened fire from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort shortly after 10pm. Paddock’s brother said Stephen Paddock had “No religious affiliation. No political affiliation. He just hung out.” The shooting is now the deadliest mass shooting in American history killing 58 and injuring over 200.
Mayor Carmen Yulin from San Juan spoke out against President Trump, saying she is outraged by the amount of time it has taken to get supplies over to the island. President Trump stated over an interview that it took so long because Puerto Rico is an “island surrounded by water. Big water. Ocean water.” He went on to tweet saying that “Puerto Ricans want everything to be done for them,” and “this should be a community effort.” The President and First Lady are expected to arrive on Tuesday.
The region of Catalonia in Spain has been wanting to become independent for several years, and just yesterday 90% of the region voted to become an independent state. Catalonia has had a separate culture and language. However, Spain declared the vote illegal and riots broke out injuring 800.
The health and human services secretary Tom Price resigned on Friday after speculations of large spending on travel. Price has spent over $1 million on private jets and military planes, and while he promised to pay all the money back, that wasn’t enough.

Stephen Paddock’s life is being examined, motive is being looked for for the shooting that injured 400+ and killed 58 people in Las Vegas last night. Paddock’s roommate was suspected to have been involved, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
Why Does It Matter?
A motive has not been set for this shooting, the suspect seems to have been a 58 year old white male with no religious or political affiliations.
