It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that the Republican Party is mostly filled with overbearing, bullies who seem to always lack sympathy for millions of hardworking Americans. Unfortunately, we have gotten yet another example as to why so many citizens feel this way towards the GOP. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals recently denied Andres Magana Ortiz’s appeal to remain in the U.S. and not having to be deported to Mexico. Ortiz’s story is one that many hard working, honest immigrants can relate to. He entered the country illegally at the age of 15 and he has lived in the United States for 28 years now. Despite the difficulties of illegally moving to a new country, learning a new language and culture, Ortiz overcame all of those obstacles and became a successful businessman in Hawaii. He has worked closely with the U.S. government to assist in fighting pests that destroy coffee crops. Despite his great success story he has no choice but to leave the country and the business he worked tirelessly to build.
Ortiz, despite being undocumented, was allowed to stay in the country and gain legal citizenship while the Obama administration was in power. Sadly, we have a moron for a President who is going to change his and his family’s life. The panel of three judges had no choice but to deny the appeal but one Judge in particular, Stephen Reinhardt was none too pleased with how the appeal turned out. Judge Reinhardt wrote in a concurrence that “I concur as a judge, but as a citizen I do not.” He also went on to write “President Trump has claimed that his immigration policies would target the “bad hombres.” The government’s decision to remove Magana Ortiz shows that even the “good hombres” are not safe. Magana Ortiz is by all accounts a pillar of his community and a devoted father and husband.”
The part of this story that is even more sad is that his wife and children are American citizens. His wife and his children will now have a life changing decision to make because of the lack of compassion shown by the Trump administration. They will be forced to choose between their country and their father, a man who by all accounts was a good citizen and contributed to his community. Going back to the 1800’s this great nation has been built in large part because of millions of hardworking immigrants like Mr. Ortiz and in return they have been able to provide a better life for themselves and their families. It is either live without a husband and a father or uproot your entire life because this administration does not understand there are more good immigrants than bad.
It is heartbreaking to know that we will only see mores stories of hard working immigrants having their family ripped apart, business’ that they worked for years to build taken away, their children’s schooling being interrupted and overall having their lives change drastically all because of these flawed policies. Yes immigration is an issue that should be addressed but people who contribute to our society should not be victims of Trump’s policies, they should be praised and commended for their dedication and courage to provide a better lifestyle for their loved ones instead of being deported. President Trump needs to understand that getting rid of good people in our country only hurts us as a society, but when you are not a good person yourself, maybe it is simply too much for him and the rest of Republicans to be understanding and show compassion.
